The Status Quo

by martyfogs on February 1, 2010

The status quo is an illusion.

Think of the status quo of this moment.

Now its gone – we’re already onto a new moment.

The Status Quo is important to have in mind as a reference to understand and predict how most of the world operates – but be sure to stay present enough to realize it’s just a snapshot.

Look at it like a 3-D model.  Can you see the gaps and overlaps in it?

When you picture that 3-D status quo model in your head – how inclusive is it?  Does it include just your family, just your business, your market, the US or the entire planet?

In truth, the status quo is a puzzle game, waiting for someone – YOU – to solve it.  You solve the status quo by bringing your entire self to that present moment: your values, your mission, the vision you have for what your life can be about, and you act in alignment with these guideposts.

The game is to be as present as possible in the moment with the status quo you’re encountering.

Status quo is like water in a swimming pool, and we are the swimmers.  We work through it.  We can slog through it in an inefficient way, we can get through it even though we’re pre-occupied with other thoughts.  Or we can get through it being very present, paying attention to it and meeting the present moment’s conditions with our best response.

The status quo exists to bring out the best in us.  It is a platform for our genius, its a stage for our song, its a game to showcase our brilliant potential.

This moment, right now is an invitation for us to be our best.

Tomorrow:  what happens when we accept this invitation.
