We can get what we want by being really present in the moment. In this moment, then – ask yourself questions.
The questions we ask ourselves guide the outcomes we get.
Think of the bored girl at the parking lot gate – is she asking herself “When is my shift gonna be over so I can get on with my life?” or “What good thing might happen if I make contact with every driver and use a few words to cause them to smile as they leave the lot?”
The first question resists the present – the second question embraces the present and uses it as an instrument to celebrate the gift of her life.
Here are some questions to ask at work:
-What gift to humanity can I give in the next 50 minutes of working on this project?
-How can I approach my work in the next 5 minutes so that my children would be inspired to do their best?
In addition to questions – we can set the context, meaning and ground rules for the current period of time or task:
-I allow myself to disengage and disable any programs running in the background that take me from the task at hand.
-I have ten minutes in which I am a channel of universal genius. I allow myself to open and step aside as the universe’s brilliance uses my talents and flows through my work to produce th best possible outcome for the next 30 minutes.
What questions can you think of?
