The purpose of the status quo

by martyfogs on February 3, 2010

The status quo exists for us to respond to.

It’s a blank slate that’s ours to draw on, a lump of clay that’s ours to mold.

This is what the human race has done with nature for centuries:  cleared fields, diverted streams, dammed rivers, chopped down forests, paved millions of square miles of earth for roads and buildings…

Its not right or wrong… but there are consequences.

The consequences are our current circumstances.

The status quo of our current economics is ready for us to make of it what we will.

Most people are waiting for someone else to fix it.

Another alternative is to make the most of what you have now… to dig into the clay lump on your lap now and start carving it into something – anything.

You will not travel in a straight line, and your result will never be perfect.  But it’ll be better than your current situation.

What can I do right now with this lump of circumstances in my lap?

How can I handle this test in a way that would make me proud to look back at?

What can I devote the next 10 minutes to that could be a step toward a massive step forward?

Most people don’t do this – most people hide in the ordinary category.  But you’re not ordinary – no one is.  For the next 10 minutes, be who you are.   Be extraordinary.
