Rule number 6

by martyfogs on February 4, 2010

In a great book called The Art of Possibility, by Benjamin and Rosamunda Zander, Ben talks about Rule Number 6.

Rule number 6 is to not take yourself or situation too seriously.

Feelings of fear, avoidance, indignation, righteousness are all indications that I may have forgotten to apply this rule.  Some of these feelings are valid some of the time – but once we’ve planned our day or week and face the obstacles the status quo offers us, none of these should stop us… unless we’re taking ourselves too seriously.

I have a newsletter to write and a project to finish, plus 4 meetings today.  I’m a bit overstuffed, and I’m feeling overwhelmed.  Maybe I’m taking myself and this situation too seriously.

Maybe I can remember rule number 6 and let these mounting frustrations pass, so that I can reset the scene and continue.

Applying Rule number 6 is like pressing the reset button.

Its your day, its your life, they are your obstacles to craft solutions to.  we all have the same ending point – but the wakes we leave differ widely.

Remembering and applying Rule number 6 helps you craft a better wake for your loved ones and passions to enjoy and benefit from.
